In 1945 Iris and Fred danced the foxtrot at the Blackpool Tower dance hall. They glided across the floor like silk blowing in a gentle breeze. They didn’t win but boy did they create an uproar of applause. Years later sitting watching Strictly on T.V. Fred asked Iris why she chose him, to go to Blackpool with her that day. Iris replied, ‘You remember Len Crown, lived up Hardale Avenue?’ Fred looked at Iris, he hesitated before answering ‘Yea I remember him, nice lad, good at football he was, always scoring goals’. ‘Well he wanted to go to the match so I invited you’. ‘And I thought it was because you were in love with me?’ ‘Shussshh’ said Iris. ‘They are about to announce the winner. Fred looked at Iris, rolled his eyes and shook his head.
